Patrons swarmed the new retailer's first entry into the D.C. area market to participate in the highly publicized grand opening event.

UA made a nice move on earnings on heavy volume, which is indicative of accumulation. UA is currently showing relative strength and has supported at every test of the 10sma. It is also displaying a nice flagging pattern, which is bullish.

The 30-year veteran announced September 15 that he would take a leave of absence.

McLean-based Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) reported Craig A. Dubow, chairman and chief executive officer, will officially resign his post due to disability from a debilitating medical condition. The 30-year veteran previously announced September 15 that he would take a leave of absence.

Dubow will be replaced by Marjorie Magner and Gracia Martore who will become chairman and CEO respectively.

The Fillmore is official in Silver Spring. The highly debated music hall which was funded by $8 million from Montgomery County and the State of Maryland Governments is almost complete with workers putting on the finishing touches.

The exclusive Fillmore Music Hall is the only one in the D.C. area and one of the few intimate indoor venues that is specifically designed to host national and local performances. The historic J.C. Penny property at 8656 Colesville Road was donated by Lee Development group and will be operated by Live Nation.

PharmAthene  increased revenue and reduced losses in the second quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Annapolis-basedbiodefense company PharmAthene, Inc. (NYSE Amex: PIP), increased revenue and reduced losses in the second quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Revenue totaled $6.4 Million in the quarter a year-over-year increase versus $4.8 Million in 2010. The increase was due to U.S. government funding for PharmAthene's  SparVax and Valortim biodefense drug programs.

Bethesda-based RLJ Lodging Trust (NYSE: RLJ)the real estate investment trust (REIT) that completed an initial public offering (IPO) in May 2011-- reported its second quarter 2011 results.

Total revenue for the quarter amounted to $211.5 Million, which beat analyst average estimates of  $202.85 Million.

That total revenue was much higher than a disclosed second quarter 2010 amount of $139.4 Million

The company had $1.3 Billion in loan originations, the highest in company history. 

Bethesda-based Walker & Dunlop, Inc. (NYSE: WD), said it amassed record revenue in the second quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Total revenue was $42.4 Million in the quarter, up 38% from $30.68 Million in prior quarter 2010. The record revenue beat average analyst estimates of $38.19 Million.

The company has partnered with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries of Israel to develop Multikine.

Cel-Sci Corporation (NYSE AMEX: CVM)with headquarters in Vienna, Va.,posted a net loss for Q2 2011, nearly six times deeper than in the second quarter of 2010.

Losses were $3.11 Million in the three-months quarter ended June 30, 2011 compared to $601,124 in 2010.

Revenue in the second quarter came entirely from grants and totaled a small sum of $77,403.

The company's expenses grew to $4.85 Million from $3.4 Million.

Rockville-based Washington Real Estate Investment Trust (WRIT) (NYSE: WRE) is aiming for a higher quality portfolio to appease shareholders.

The 16 property industrial portfolio will be dumped through deals consisting of five separate transactions totaling $350 Million—to be completed by the end of the year.

The Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association held its annual event Sunday at the University System of Maryland, Shady Grove Campus in Rockville.

The 16th annual event for the association was represented by a large number of executives from China as well as the United States. The organization's members include scientists, attorneys, entrepreneurs and other professionals. More than four delegations in groups of ten or more attended the event, flying all the way from China.

Germantown, Md-based Neuralstem, Inc (Nasdaq: CUR) shares rose more 7 percent Thursday, opening at $1.75 a share and closing at $1.93 share.

The spike in the stock price was related to news that the company won a ruling in its favor for a patent infringement case.

Neuralstem was the defendant in the case filed against it by Palo Alto, Calif-based StemCells, Inc. The case was dismissed by the U.S. Federal District Court for the District of Maryland.

Not Your Average Joe's first D.C. area location in Gaithersburg opened to great fanfare. Seating areas are constantly packed on weekends with customers willing to cope with hour long waits (perhaps it's the Not Your Average Joe’s Dipping Sauce?).

With the successful launch of the Kentlands restaurant the company has opened several more locations including most recently a Bethesda location in the Wildwood Shopping center taking over a former Hamburger Hamlet Space.

Two new retail tenants have signed onto the Riverdale Station Park development in the Town of Rivderdale Park. They follow the Whole Foods Market grocery store which was the first retail tenant and one of several soon-to-be anchors at the mixed use project. The Whole Foods Market will be the first in Prince George's County.

Bella Beach Spa will take space 3A-3 according to data from H&R Retail, the company is managing the retail leasing for the project.
