What we all saw as an audience on the basketball court during the NBA finals was a duel between the Golden State Warriors going up against the Cleveland Cavaliers. We saw Warriors reigning league MVP Stephen Curry going up against four-time league MVP Lebron James of the Cavaliers. The Warriors won the series 4-2 to win the NBA championship.

But it was also a battle on the business side between Under Armour and Nike for sports apparel and shoes popularity as Curry is a representative of Under Armour and James a representative of Nike.

We recently released an article about the Top 5 Worst Markets for Office Space in the D.C. area. Those areas had the highest vacancy rates in the Washington, D.C. area according to a Transwestern report.

Demand for Class-C and Class-B office space is at near all-time lows and at the same time tenants are adamant about leasing Class-A office space. In some sub markets the demand is so great that Class-A office space available is now below 1 percent.

Gaylord Entertainment Co. (NYSE: GET) and Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) have come to an agreement over the management of Gaylord's self-branded hotels.

The Nashville-based company will hand over operation of its four large hotels to hospitality giant Marriott with headquarters in Bethesda. The company which also owns several brands including the Ritz Carlton, based in Chevy Chase; will add the Gaylord Hotels brand to its portfolio for $210 million.

Fairfax County and Washington Examiner newspaper argue over Dulles Rail costs

Fairfax County Director of Public Affairs, Merni Fitzgerald is refuting claims made by a Washington Examiner newspaper editorial that the Dulles rail project is no longer on schedule, is over budget, and lacks transparency to the public.

The statement was posted on the Fairfax County government website calling the editorial titled "Airports authority head lied, and transparency died", a piece full of inaccuracies and stating opinions as facts.

The 30-year veteran announced September 15 that he would take a leave of absence.

McLean-based Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) reported Craig A. Dubow, chairman and chief executive officer, will officially resign his post due to disability from a debilitating medical condition. The 30-year veteran previously announced September 15 that he would take a leave of absence.

Dubow will be replaced by Marjorie Magner and Gracia Martore who will become chairman and CEO respectively.

The Bozzuto Group and The Peterson Companies teamed up to announce in late 2010, plans to develop an apartment building at the $4 Billion National Harbor along the Potomac River in Prince George's county. Now more details of the project have surfaced.

Many local stocks were in negative territory during the September 6th trading session continuing a downward trend from Friday's overall session slump based on virtually zero job creation in the U.S. economy. The markets were closed on September 5th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and Tognum America, Inc, were awarded as a group -- a $439.7 Million contract from the U.S. Army.

The team of federal defense contracts will work on the Technology Development (TD) phase of the U.S. Army's Ground Combat Vehicle(GCV) Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) program. It is expected that the results will produce affordable and effective Infantry Fighting Vehicle within a time-frame of seven years.

Virginia and Maryland were amongst the 28 states that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said had their jobless rates increase in July 2011. Along with D.C., the jurisdictions with jobless rate increases totaled 29.

The bureau also said nine states had rate decreases and 13 had virtually zero change in their unemployment rate.

But Maryland and Virginia posted small rate increases while the District of Columbia showed a rate change that was much higher than in June 2011.

Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI), the Mclean based government technology contractor — was awarded a prime contract of up to $30 million job by the United States Marine Corps Systems Command’s (MCSC) Information Systems and Infrastructure Product Group (PG-10).

SAIC services will be used to support the Total Force Structure Management Systems(TFSMS), by  providing systems integration support, which includes post deployment software support, and provide training and system performance enhancements.

AvalonBay Communities, Inc.  (NYSE:AVB),  Chairman of the Board, Bryce Blair, accumulated almost 18,000 shares through various transactions between the August 9th and 10th.

All-in-all the Chairman of one of the largest multifamily developers in the D.C. area, made transactions (acquiring and disposing) totaling 35,800 shares of Arlington-based AvalonBay stock and got in as low as $48.60.

Mclean-based Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) was one of two defense firms that won a contract from the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic.

Under the contract agreement SAIC will provide worldwide command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) services to help the United States Navy and Joint C4ISR systems.
