Silver Spring-based Discovery Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: DISCA, DISCB, DISCK), reported stellar financial results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Bethesda-based RLJ Lodging Trust (NYSE: RLJ) is finding good hotel deals from Washington,  D.C.  to Washington State. The Lodging trust announced its purchased a property on K street in Washington, D.C. and is about to close on another property in Seattle, Washington.

Only a day after splitting from Gannett, newly formed Tegna Inc (NYSE: TGNA), is already making it's own investment in another business.

The McLean, Va-based company has taken a stake in the Video Call Center, LLC (VCC). The company with a facility in Palisades, NY has patented video technology that allows them to create original content from video callers using television workflow processes.

Networks like ID Discovery grew 35 percent in the first quarter and ranked fourth behind USA, TNT and TBS stations in viewership during the day.

Over the next several months the $4 billion National Harbor project along the Potomac River will add five new stores. Volkswagen of America sales increased sales 47.9 percent in the first month of 2012

Volkswagen's U.S. operations based in Herndon, reported 47.9 percent increase in sales to start off the 2012 calendar year. The 27,209 units sold was the best on record since 1974.

Sales were led by volume leader Jetta, the sedan variant had 9,564 units sold but that was 1.8 percent lower than in January 2011. Overall Jetta sales including SportsWagen were 10,962 units, down 4.3 percent.

Volkswagen of America sales increased sales 39.6 percent in October

Herndon based Volkswagen of America reported a double digit increase in annual sales for calendar year 2011 as well as a record setting December.

The U.S. sales total was 324,402 units, a 26.3 percent increase over calendar year 2010 sales.

Highlights from the year include the Volkswagen Jetta, which was the sales volume leader throughout last year with total sales of 177,360 units including SportWagen. It was a 43.9 percent increase.

Volkswagen of America sales increased sales 39.6 percent in October

Herndon-based Volkswagen of America reported a 40.7 percent increase in sales for November 2011, topping the sales increase of 39.6 percent in October 2011. Sales for November totaled 28,412 units

The all-new 2012 Passat built in Chattanooga, TN was named Motor Trend's Car of the Year and sold 6,018 units becoming second best seller in the Volkswagen line-up.

Total Jetta sales for both sedan and SportWagen amounted to12,891 units, which was a 15.6 percent increase from November 2010.

Audi of America sales increased sales 25.8 percent in October

Audi of America, the luxury brand of Herndon-based Volkswagen of America sold a total of 10,225 units in October up from the 8,128 units sold in October 2010, and a double digit increase of 25.8 percent.

The Audi A4 led the vehicle line-up in sales, with 2,613 units, close behind was the Audi Q5 SUV reporting 2,610 units sold.

Volkswagen of America sales increased sales 39.6 percent in October

Herndon-based Volkswagen of America reported another strong month with October sales increasing 39.6 percent.

The maker of Jetta sedans reported total sales of 28,028 units. The all-new Passat and Beetle vehicles posted their first full month sales. The 2012 Chattanooga, TN-built Passat flagship sedan sold 5,040 units and the 2012 Beetle coupe sold 1,516 units up 219.8 percent.

The volume seller continued to be the Jetta sedan and sportwagen variant, they had a combined sales total of 13,058 units, 9.2 percent increase.

McLean-based Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI), continued to post declines across several categories in its financial results as its print publishing business continues to falter.

The owner of USA Today reported net operating revenues of $1.27 billion in the third quarter ended September 25, 2011, a year-over-year decrease of 3.5 percent from the $1.31 billion in 2010.

On Monday, October 10, 2011 regularly aired shows on some of Discovery's networks will give up their prime time slots for two all-new shows that are part of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Audi of America, the luxury vehicle brand of Volkswagen of America reported its ninth consecutive record-breaking month.

Herndon-based Audi sold 9,725 vehicles in September 2011, a year-over-year gain of 19.8% from September 2010.

Like its mainstream counterpart, sales gains were supported by the launch of all-new vehicles for the 2012 model year.

The A4 was the overall sales leader with 2,690 units sold; the Audi Q5 was the second best-seller and led the truck line-up with 2,235 unit sales.
