The case, PharmAthene Inc (PIP) vs. SIGA Technologies Inc., CA2627, was decided today in Delaware Chancery Court in Wilmington.

Annapolis-based PharmAthene, Inc. (NYSE Amex: PIP) has finally received a judgment on the dispute against SIGA Technologies over a smallpox antiviral drug designated ST-246.

The case, PharmAthene Inc (PIP) vs. SIGA Technologies Inc., CA2627, was decided today in Delaware Chancery Court in Wilmington.

Baltimore-based Under Armour Inc (NYSE:UA) rose passed $68 a share in afternoon trading, subsequent to staying below Friday's close for most of the trading day. Many local stocks were in negative territory during the September 6th trading session continuing a downward trend from Friday's overall session slump based on virtually zero job creation in the U.S. economy. The markets were closed on September 5th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

One of the many lodging real estate investment trusts based in Maryland has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Denver Marriott City Center in downtown Denver, Colorado from WTCC City Center Investors V, L.L.C.

Virginia and Maryland were amongst the 28 states that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said had their jobless rates increase in July 2011. Along with D.C., the jurisdictions with jobless rate increases totaled 29.

The bureau also said nine states had rate decreases and 13 had virtually zero change in their unemployment rate.

But Maryland and Virginia posted small rate increases while the District of Columbia showed a rate change that was much higher than in June 2011.

Ciena Corporation was selected by GlobalNet for an upgrade of its optical network in Russia.

Linthicum-based Ciena Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN) was selected by GlobalNet for an upgrade of its optical network.

Ciena Corporation will use its 4200 Advanced Services Platform as a foundation for its new technologies including 40G technology and WaveLogic choherent optical processors. The new network system will help the Russian telecommunication carrier GlobalNet meet growing demand, primarily in West Russia, by increasing bandwidth.

After huge swings in the stock market over the last several days, management at companies in the area find it a good time to stock up

AvalonBay Communities, Inc.  (NYSE:AVB),  Chairman of the Board, Bryce Blair, accumulated almost 18,000 shares through various transactions between the August 9th and 10th.

All-in-all the Chairman of one of the largest multifamily developers in the D.C. area, made transactions (acquiring and disposing) totaling 35,800 shares of Arlington-based AvalonBay stock and got in as low as $48.60.

PharmAthene  increased revenue and reduced losses in the second quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Annapolis-basedbiodefense company PharmAthene, Inc. (NYSE Amex: PIP), increased revenue and reduced losses in the second quarter ended June 30, 2011.

Revenue totaled $6.4 Million in the quarter a year-over-year increase versus $4.8 Million in 2010. The increase was due to U.S. government funding for PharmAthene's  SparVax and Valortim biodefense drug programs.

Bruce L. Claflin is better known as Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) chairman of the board, but the technology chipmaker chairman also acts as one the directors for Hanover, Md-based Ciena Corporation.

Claflin filed an SEC transaction form on July 13, 2015, for a transaction involving Ciena corp stock on the same day. 400 shares of the company stock was disposed of at an average price of $23.92 per share. Claflin held 61,362 shares of network technology maker's stock after the transaction.

The total value of the shares was $9,568.

It's that time of the year again for one of the most anticipated state business rankings lists. CNBC has released its annual list of “America's Top States for Business” in 2015. States are ranked under ten categories and only one will be victorious. The top state on the list came as a surprise to many, Minnesota jumped from the number six spot in last year's list to become the number one state to conduct business in 2015.

Annapolis-based Chesapeake Lodging Trust (NYSE: CHSP) plans to make its second hotel acquisition in New York City.

The Hotel Lodging real estate investment trust (REIT) has entered a definitive agreement to buy the Hyatt Place New York Midtown South. Located at 52-54 West 36th Street,New York, New York, the property is less than a mile from Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall.

Chesapeake Lodging Trust is expected to purchase the 185-room Hyatt brand hotel for $76.5 million or $414,000 per room key.
