Volkswagen of America August 2011 Sales (with Chart)

Herndon-based Volkswagen of America Inc. (PINK:VLKAY), reported sales in August of 25,232 units, an increase of 20.7 % compared to last year. Much of the increase was due to the Jetta model line, which sold 14,500 units compared to 10,667 in August of 2010.

Jonathan Browning, CEO and President of Volkswagen of America inc. believes that the impact of Hurricane Irene on the east coast impacted potential sales that would have increased beyond its August sales report. "August saw its share of challenges, with consumer confidence sliding and a substantial hurricane on the last weekend of the month, to name just two," said Browning.

Despite concerns of the way the month ended, GTI units increased 59.5% with Golf improving 20.2% compared to August of 2010.

Part of the posted success came from the TDI clean diesels and other high mileage models, which attributed year-over-year 24.4% jump in August 2011 sales.

With the resurgence of Volkswagen's models lineup, the company has been making gradual, but much needed progress in the United States.
