Salisbury-based Perdue Incorporated, the third largest poultry company in the United States, gathered with Maryland government officials to commemorate the completion of a 5,040-panel solar system at its corporate headquarters facility.
The solar panel system is the final phase of a nearly 12,000 solar panel installation on six acres. The system was constructed on site at the company's headquarters located in the county seat of Wicomico County.
Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES), subsidiary of District-based WGL Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:WGL), supplied and owns the panels. Rockville-based Standard Solar, Inc. was responsible for the installation. Perdue will purchase the solar generated electricity at fixed prices and will supply 90 percent of energy demands at the corporate headquarters.
Perdue is a privately held family business with over 21,000 employees. Total sales revenue in 2009 was $4.6 billion.
