Marriott International (MAR) and NBA Make a Slam Dunk, Global Deal

Bethesda, Maryland-based Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) and the NBA have agreed to a deal that will ultimately entertain basketball fans around the world. It marks the first time that a Company and the NBA will hold special events globally, across five different continents.

"Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world, and our partnership with the NBA gives us an opportunity to tap into a passionate fan base and communicate the breadth and depth of our portfolio," Marriott International Global Marketing Officer Karin Timpone noted. "Similar to what we are doing with music and entertainment, our NBA partnership helps us create memorable experiences for our Rewards members and amplify the benefits of the program for both new and loyal guests."

The special events include NBA Global Games 2015-2016, NBA Africa Game 2015 and the NBA Canada Series 2015. The agreement is the continuing trend of the NBA trying to globalize their brand in every way possible after making significant progress in China.

NBA Global Games 2015-2016 will feature preseason games and regular season games that six NBA teams will participate in. The event will have those six NBA teams playing seven games in seven different cities internationally.

The international games begin in Johannesburg, South Africa during the NBA Africa Game 2015. It will be the first NBA game ever in Africa.

Marriott’s 19 brands around the world which includes The Riz Carlton and Renaissance Hotels in Chevy Chase, Maryland, will hold special meet and greets with NBA legends and current players as well as give the fans the opportunity to participate in events that will be centered around the hashtag #AroundTheWorld. The meet and greet will not only be hosted by Marriott Rewards, but also by Protea African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel in Johannesburg.

Members of the Marriott Rewards program in the United States can participate in the meet and greets by entering upcoming sweepstakes which will be held by Marriott Rewards.
