Noted as Kaiser Permanente’s largest medical center in Montgomery County by Marilyn Kawamura, president, of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc; the 175,000 square foot office building overlooking I-270 is now operational and open to serve patients after over a year of renovations.
One of latest office buildings to go up in the Gaithersburg submarket before the real estate crash; it was built and previously owned by Monument Realty. At one point it was the regional headquarters of Provident Bancshares before the Maryland-based bank was bought out. Monument Realty divested its interest in the property and it was snatched up by Kaiser Permanente after sitting vacant for some years.
Also known as Monument Corporate Center I, the building at 655 Watkins Mill Road is the first of a three building set that would total over 650,000 square feet of office space.
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States will employ over 350 physicians and staff at the center under 72 provider offices. Members will have access to medical services including cardiology, nuclear cardiology, sports medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy and urology. The center will also have 24/7 service including urgent care, pharmacy and laboratory work.
“The new Kaiser Permanente Gaithersburg Medical Center will provide a level of unmatched access and convenience for our patients,” proclaimed Bernadette Loftus, MD, The Permanente Medical Group associate executive director for the Mid-Atlantic States. “Our award-winning Mid-Atlantic Permanente physicians helped design this building to ensure it houses all the technology and equipment our physicians need to quickly and easily provide total care, at any time of day or night.”
